The Toyota Corolla continues to be a top choice as a hatchback or sedan. For 2021, after last year's complete redesign, Android Auto now comes standard, plus automatic stop-start functionality for the engine. The 2021 Corolla also features a new Apex Edition with a sport suspension and available summer tires.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 Toyota Corolla is available in five main trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, and XSE. Other than these trims, Toyota also released the Apex Edition (new for 2021) and the SE Nightshade. The base L trim starts with 15-inch wheels and LED headlights, while the LE trim adds heated side mirrors. The XLE trim comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, and upgraded LED headlights.
The SE trim adds a sporty touch with special exterior accents and 18-inch alloy wheels. With the SE Nightshade, you get unique styling with blackout exterior trim and custom 18-inch wheels. The Apex Edition offers black and bronze exterior trim and optional summer performance tires.
Engine (Power)
The 2021 Toyota Corolla is front-wheel drive and offers two choices for the engine. The base trim Corolla sedan has a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 139 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque. Available as standard equipment in the hatchback model, and also SE and XSE trim of the sedan, the other engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 169 horsepower (168 for the hatchback) and 151 pound-feet of torque. The smaller engine has a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), whereas the upgrade can come with a CVT or a six-speed manual.
Performance
As either a hatchback or sedan, the 2021 Toyota Corolla offers a controlled ride. The brakes and steering are designed to be very supportive in everyday driving challenges, the transmission works smoothly, and the engine works quietly even at higher rpm. Interior
Easy to get in and out, the 2021 Toyota Corolla can seat up to five adults just fine. The rear cargo space is 13.1 cubic feet for the sedan or 17.8 cubic feet for the hatchback. Hatchback models also have folding rear seats, and with those all down, the cargo room can open up to 23.3 cubic feet. Cloth upholstery comes as standard equipment, but genuine leather is also available, as are a moonroof and automatic climate control.
As for tech, music, and other factors, base models all use a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, two USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo. An 8-inch touch screen can be slotted instead, and drivers can also add a navigation system, a 7-inch digital driver display, wireless device charging, another USB port, a nine-speaker JBL sound system, and HD Radio.
Safety Features
Despite its affordability, the 2021 Toyota Corolla makes no compromises on safety. Notable standard features include a rearview camera, automatic high-beam headlights, and adaptive cruise control. For 2021, new rear-seat side air bags were added to all versions. Various parking aids and automatic systems can be added to fit your needs.
