Richmond, KY is a beautiful city just south of Lexington with plenty to do, see, and experience. From historical sites that will give you a view into the past to outdoor activities that everyone in your family can enjoy, this is a city that you will love to live in.

1. The Proximity

Living in Richmond will give you that small-town feeling without all of the congestion and traffic that comes with living in the city. However, you’ll still be able to make it to Lexington in just over 30 minutes and Louisville in about 90 minutes. Whenever you want to take a day trip to one of these larger cities or even stay for a weekend, you can easily do so without having to pack and prepare for an extended road trip.

2. The Outdoor Entertainment

If you want to get outdoors in Richmond, you’ll have more than enough opportunities to do so. Lake Reba Park, located at 299 Lake Reba Drive, is the perfect spot for outdoor entertainment. This park is surrounded by a 600-acre lake where you can fish, kayak, or feed the ducks. The park also features a golf course, as well as a mini-golf course, plenty of sports fields, and several playgrounds.

Paradise Cove Aquatic Center is also located at this park, which is a public swimming area that rivals your typical waterpark with waterslides, a toddler splash area, diving boards, and much more. If your kids need to get out of the house and expend some energy, this pool will become your summer go-to. It’s the perfect place to escape the summer heat, play, and learn new swimming skills. Plus, you can purchase a membership to visit as often as you’d like.

3. The History

History buffs will love living in Richmond because it is an area rich with history. You can visit the Battle of Richmond Visitor Center located at 101 Battlefield Memorial Highway, where you can learn all about the historic Battle of Richmond, which was the second-largest battle fought during the Civil War in Kentucky. Other historic properties and sites in the area include White Hall and Battlefield Park, where you can watch a Civil War enactment each year.
