2021 Toyota 4Runner

The 2021 Toyota 4Runner is a rugged-looking midsize SUV with a sturdy body-on-frame build. The vehicle is extremely reliable and has an excellent reputation that continues to grow with the latest model.

2021 Overview

The 2021 4Runnner comes with upgraded LED lights. The TRD Pro model has an upgraded suspension and newly designed TRD wheels fitted with Nitto Terra Grappler Tires. The limited-production Trail Edition receives upgrades to the exterior, including massive 17-inch rims.

Retro Exterior

The 2021 4Runner retains its classic design cues, which combines a tough front end with high ground clearance and retro body styling. You know immediately this is an SUV built to go off-road at a glance. This isn’t an SUV that looks more like a car designed for urban use.

Infotainment

Every 2021 4Runner comes with an infotainment system that features a responsive 8.0-inch touchscreen and is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. The system, called Entune, has an interface complemented with physical buttons and tuning knobs, convenient when driving off-road. Bluetooth, voice-recognition technology, and navigation are all also available.

Passenger Room

The stock 2021 4Runner can seat five adults in comfort with loads of personal space. Toyota provides the option of a third row of seats to take the seating capacity to seven, which is rare in a vehicle of this size.

Cargo

2021 4Runners with two rows of seats have no shortage of rear cargo area. The cargo hold is massive and can fit around 14 carry-on suitcases and carry up to 440 pounds.

Smooth Power

All models 2021 4Runner sport a powerful 4.0-liter V6 engine. The power plant features 24 valves, variable valve timing, and overhead cams to deliver smooth power throughout the rev count. The V6 produces a hefty 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque.

Drive Types

All models except the Limited trim are rear-wheel-drive vehicles. Except for the base model, the other trims have a selectable four-wheel drive designed to be used off-road. The Limited trim comes with an active all-wheel-drive system that automatically manages power given to the front and rear wheels.

Transmission

The reliable and smooth-shifting five-speed automatic transmission comes with all models. The automatic transmission performs just as well off-road or when driving around town.

Off-Road Capability

The 4Runner is known for having serious off-road capabilities, and the 2021 4Runner is no different. The 4Runner’s solid body-on-frame build keeps the vehicle straight when tackling the roughest of terrain.

Towing Power

The 4Runners V6 engine is designed for towing. When fully equipped, the low-end torque of the V6 power plant helps the 2021 4Runner to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Safety Tech

Every model of the 2021 4Runner comes with a host of driver-assistance technologies, including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
