Since their inception, sedans and hatchbacks have been the top pick for individuals and small families to transport their families locally and for trips. Toyota has cemented their place in the industry with their vehicles like this year’s 2022 Toyota Corolla. Both the Corolla sedan and hatchback are some of the most popular choices among families here at Toyota South thanks to their many impressive features.

Basics About the 2022 Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla is unique in that it has two versions: a compact sedan, the smallest type of sedan on the market, and a hatchback. Since their first release many years ago, both versions of the Corolla have established a positive reputation for their reliability, comfortable design, and excellent fuel economy.

Driving Performance

All models of the Corolla come standard with front-wheel drive. The L, LE, and XLE sedans are equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT automatic transmission. The SE and XSE sedans share a more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with all hatchbacks. They are paired with either a CVT automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.

The Corolla Hybrid has a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a two-battery hybrid system.

Safety

The Toyota Corolla sedan and hatchback both achieved the highest five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. Both versions of the Corolla also earned the 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS thanks to their highest Good ratings in all crash tests.

Both the sedan and hatchback also come equipped with impressive safety features, such as:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Rearview camera
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane keep assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Road sign recognition

You can also upgrade your safety suite to gain features like rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive headlights.

Technology

The Corolla sedan comes standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Amazon Alexa, and Bluetooth connectivity as well as satellite radio, two USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo system.

A larger 8.0-inch touchscreen is available as an upgrade for the sedan and standard on the hatchback. Both also offer wireless device charging, navigation, another USB port, and a premium nine-speaker audio system as an upgrade.
