Richmond families that are looking for a capable and spacious family SUV have a tough choice between the 2020 Toyota Highlander and the 2019 Toyota Highlander. Both editions offer excellent capability and a comfortable interior for your long Richmond commutes.

However, the Highlander received a complete redesign for the 2020 model year, and drivers may prefer the 2020 editions performance, interior, and technology over the 2019 edition. Read along as Toyota South breaks down the differences between the 2020 and 2019 Highlander. Then contact us when you’re ready to take a test drive in either of these models to explore them in person.

2020 vs. 2019 Toyota Highlander: Design

The first noticeable difference when comparing the 2020 vs. 2019 Toyota Highlander is its design. Each edition still offers seating for up to eight people, but the 2020 Highlander offers seating for seven with available captains chairs for the first and second rows. Additionally, the 2020 Highlander will be longer and has an updated exterior that gives it a sportier look with a more streamlined design.

Also, both the 2020 Highlander and the 2019 Highlander will have five trim levels for Lexington drivers, though the 2020 edition comes with a new lineup. The trim levels for the 2020 edition will include the Highlander L, LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum, while the 2019 edition has the Highlander LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, and Limited.

2020 vs. 2019 Toyota Highlander: Engine & Performance

The Toyota Highlander model is well known for its capability and performance on Frankfort roads and off the beaten trail. The 2019 Highlander has a base 2.7L 4-cylinder engine that can easily haul trailers and campers, all while giving drivers the advanced traction and the AWD capability they depend on during inclement weather.

However, the 2020 Highlander takes power and performance to the next level with its new standard 3.5L V6 engine. Improved towing power, fuel economy, and better handling will make the 2020 Highlander a superior choice for some Berea drivers. Compare the engine specs for the 2020 vs. 2019 Toyota Highlander models:

2020 Highlander Engine & MPG:

  • 3.5L V6 Engine
