The Toyota "100 Cars for Good" program was one of the Japanese automaker's greatest philanthropic efforts to date, and everyone here at Toyota South greatly admires them for doing it. During the event, Toyota gave away a new vehicle to one deserving charity. And that even lasted 100 days!
So how did the event resonate with the general public? Well enough for Toyota to want to do it again in 2012. Toyota plans to begin accepting applications for the second annual "100 Cars for Good" program on March 12th, and only 501(c)(3) nonprofit groups qualify. This way, the vehicles that Toyota gives away are sure to be used for a truly good cause.
"At Toyota, we appreciate what a big difference a new car can make for organizations working to improve lives and strengthen communities across the country, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to lend a hand," explains Michael Rouse, Vice President of . "Over the last 20 years, Toyota has contributed more than half a billion dollars to nonprofits throughout the U.S. 100 Cars for Good allows us to build on that commitment in important, new ways by making the public an integral part of these efforts and harnessing the power of social media to expand awareness and galvanize support for organizations that are having such a tremendous impact in neighborhoods nationwide."1
As for what role social media plays? Fans are invited to vote on the nonprofit group that they feel would most benefit from a new Toyota on the company's Facebook page. This way, the community is involved all the way, from the nomination process to the final decision of the contest.
