These days Toyota is certainly well known for producing quality hybrid models like the Prius v and Camry hybrid, but that doesn't mean the company doesn't still love a good day at the tracks. Rather, the company recently decided to expand its participation in NHRA drag racing, and we here at Toyota South couldn't be more excited.
Previously, Toyota had supplied the organization with body styling for drag racing and funny car competitions, but now the company is prepared to offer one of its models from the new Toyota lineup for use. Which vehicle made the cut? That would be none other than the 2012 Toyota Camry.
Obviously the Camry that Toyota supplies for the NHRA to use will be significantly more powerful than the one that's available to be taken for a test drive here at 961 Four Mile Rd Richmond, KY 40475. That doesn't mean, however, that they're not fun to drive. We dare you to take a seat behind a new Toyota (e.g., the Highlander, Corolla, or Avalon) and not be thrilled with its ride. In fact, you can even arrange a test drive on any new or used Toyota simply by contacting us online or by phone at (866) 386-0911.
As for the supercharged models that Toyota is supplying the NHRA with. This really comes as no surprise to us, especially when you consider the length of time that Toyota has associated with them for. Specifically, Toyota began its NHRA partnership back in 2002, when they supplied a Celica-based funny car, and they claimed their first win in 2004 at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winter Nationals. In other words, the company has proven themselves to be a valuable partner.
"Toyota's increasing involvement in NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing is a clear indicator of the return on investment at both the league and team level," said NHRA president Tom Compton. "Toyota has a proven track record around sponsorship activation, and to have their involvement as an event-rights sponsor of one of the most prestigious stops on the NHRA Full Throttle Series is very exciting."1
