Toyota recently invested a healthy $1.3-billion into constructing a new plant just outside Tupelo, MI in order to keep up with the increasing demand for the fuel-efficient and reliable Toyota Corolla. Production at the plant was previously delayed due to various circumstances surrounding the economy and parts suppliers, but now it looks as if the first Corolla could roll off the plant's assembly line quite soon.
In honor of this milestone, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi is planning to host an invitation-only event to honor the factory's employees, while also showing key members of the Tupelo community how beneficial the plant is to the residents and the economy.
Of course, throwing a party for the employees this early on is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ensuring that moral amongst the plant's 1,200 employees remains high. Other measures to motivate employees include a handsome $15 hourly wage and offering health and retirement benefits.
When will see the first Corolla roll off the assembly line? Currently, the celebration is set to be held on November 17th, but it's only the beginning of some very exciting time for the plant and its staff. As Corolla production continues to progress at a steady rate, Toyota plans to hire more employees, bringing the plant to its full capacity of 2,000 workers producing 150,000 vehicles annually by the end of next year.
