Upon first seeing the new Toyota Yaris in Japan last winter, our first thought was, "when will this be on our lot?" Here at Toyota South, little has changed in our mentality regarding the new Yaris. However, there was a rather large damper put on our hopes of seeing it sooner rather than later by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March.
Toyota, however, has not allowed the effects of this disaster to stop them from making a quick recovery. Now that they're on the fast track to full production levels, the next-gen Yaris has started picking up momentum as well.
On July 1st, Don Edmond, Senior Vice President Automotive Operations, Toyota, said that we could be seeing the updated Yaris making its way to dealership showrooms by the year's end. While this means we are in for a bit of a wait, we think it will be well worth it!
Toyota's endgame with the new Yaris is to bring it on par with some of the subcompact segment's best. This is a bold move for the Japanese automaker, considering the fact that many American car-buyers are very loyal within the subcompact market. Indeed, Toyota may have their work cut out for them with this one, but if anyone can do it... Toyota can.
So far, we don't know much about what the updated Yaris will specifically include when it launches. We are sure that it will be built on the same platform, retaining its engine choices from before. Specific changes will likely include upgrades to the body, interior, and some of the vehicle's standard features.
We do know that in Japan, the Yaris, which is known as the Vitz, is expected to gain a hybrid-electric model. While it remains unclear if that specific variant will leave Japan, we would love to see one on our lot at 961 Four Mile Rd Richmond, KY 40475. But, in the end
In Japan, where the Yaris is known as the Vitz, Toyota is also expected to add a hybrid-electric variant. It's possible they'll decide to do the same in the U.S., but, again, we'll have to wait and see.
While we wait for the new Yaris to arrive, you can always check out the current 2011 Toyota Yaris. Or, you can learn more about other new Toyota models by visiting our inventory pages online.
